From Dog House to Dream House
Winter 2011

There's a little bit of history in almost everything new in the Yampa Valley. While preparing for this issue, we toured numerous new building projects around town all of which could have made great features in HomeLink. However, the story that touched us the most was the renovation of the old cabin property of Steamboat's celebrated author John Rolfe Burroughs. What could have easily become another scrape and build, wiping out Burroughs' legend forever, magically morphed into an historic preservation project centered around preserving Burroughs' original cabin and his writing shack known as the "Dog House."

The Beetle Kill Windfall
Summer 2009

This issue of HomeLink is not about the doom and gloom of our dying forests. It is not about trying to save the forests either–it is too late to think about that. The focus is now on the people, organizations, businesses and homeowners, who are taking advantage of the opportunities this situation has created.

The Water Issue
Winter 2008

In this issue of HomeLink, we have teamed up with the City of Steamboat Springs, the Mount Werner Water District, the National Forest Service, and a myriad of other local professionals to help us understand where our water comes from, how we use it, and most importantly, how to conserve it. Construction activity, invasive species, and everyday wasteful habits all impact our water system in numerous ways. But don't despair, with a little background education and conscious consideration of our usual activities, we can make positive changes that will help us preserve our precious "liquid gold," save money at home and in community taxes, and have a positive impact on our surrounding environment that we all appreciate in countless ways.
